If you’re reading this, more than likely you have a blog here on WordPress. And if you have a blog on WordPress, you probably got your blog’s “annual report” in your email today, which provides you with all kinds of fun stats about how unpopular popular your blog was this year.
Of course, if there’s one thing you should all know about statistics, it is that they are good liars. At the very least, they are good at bending the truth. For example, my report starts off by proclaiming that December 24th was my blog’s busiest day for traffic this year. Technically, that’s true… the 268 hits I got that day were the only time I even broke 200 hits on any day all year. However, those same stats say I only had 34 unique visitors that day. Compare that to yesterday when my blog registered only 103 hits, but had 49 unique visitors. Someone was scrolling through a lot of my old blog posts on Christmas Eve… does the actions of one person make that day any better than a day such as yesterday?
Anyway, just for fun, here are a couple of the top 5 lists the report provided. First off, these were the five posts on my blog that got the most views in the past year:
5. Now That’s Comedy – My Flashback Friday tribute the cartoon Animaniacs got 117 views this year…. just edging out my Billy Bass post! Proof at just how well loved this cartoon is with the generation who grew up with it…
4. Behind the Iron Curtain – One of my Saturday Squirrel posts that featured actual professional photography, rather than my shitty variety, chimed in with 128 views. Never underestimate the power and the beauty of Eastern European squirrels!
3. The 2012 Sandy Awards – This makes me happy that last year’s tribute to my favorite search terms kept getting a lot of residual views throughout the year, ending up with 152! Hopefully this year’s awards I will be posting tomorrow will be just as popular!
2. Playing Possum – My tribute to the wonderful possum got 217 views this year, and a lot of that came through search engine traffic! I am not alone in my love of the possum!
1. That Smell – This post isn’t even from 2013, it’s from September 2012! Yet my tribute to the skunk got a lot of hits in 2012, and apparently continued to bring in the visitors this year! A whopping 233 hits worth! Skunks rule!
What about this year’s top commenters here at The Nest? The annual report has that list as well!
5. Fransi Weinstein – Fransi has been mostly AWOL since she completed her 365 days of blogging every day back in August, but apparently was still around enough to light the comment lamp 95 times…. good enough for 5th on the list.
4. Pish – That Pish made the list surprises me even more than Fransi since she was gone for a longer period of time… but I’m happy to say she’s been back, and just in time to make herself my 4th most frequent commenter on this blog in 2013 with 97.
3. Draliman – The master of flash fiction horror is the only person to make this list who wasn’t already following my blog prior to this year, at 100 posts even!
2. Gentlestitches – Of course my Aussie Aunt Sharon made this list, being my longest and one of my most loyal followers and commenters. She left 326 comments on my blog… though it doesn’t say how many of those came from Shane. 🙂
And as if there was really any suspense…..
1. Merby – My most active commenter and Bestest Blogging Buddy® chimed in with a hefty workload of 473 comments this year! Of course, probably half of those were to slap me silly for some smartass comment….
Thanks to everyone who participated at Evil Squirrel’s Nest this year!
Ha! That was me on 12/24. Needed laughs and you did not fail to deliver. Happy New Year!
YAY!!!! Thanks for giving the old stuff some love!
Happy New Year, Jaded!
Awesome my friend! You are always popular to me – always!! XOXO – Bacon

Awww, thank you Yelloz! Same to you!
🙂 🙂 🙂
Wow, I made the list! I may be new but I get the job done 🙂
Yes you do… or maybe you just bumped off the rest of the competition… 😉
Bwahahaha… I mean, I’m sure I have no idea what you’re talking about 🙂
Ack! I missed the Animaniacs one. That is an awesome show! I have the DVD’s! Woot!
It was funny, original, and incredibly imaginative. They haven’t made a better cartoon series that I’ve ever seen…
My stats seem a bit off as well. I think WordPress might be smoking crack at times.
Yes, I think they might be smoking crack a lot of times. The Like notifications have been messed up for about a week now… how do you fuck something like that up?
Is that me???? OMG!!! Finally, after 473 comments, I have appeared as one of your characters. Bestest Blogging Buddy® is totally kick ass!!
Just checked mine…guess who was MY #1 commenter? 😀
Twindaddy!!!! 😉
No…you! *Smack*
I didn’t get any emails with my post stats…but then I average around 20 views a day…and my busiest post was the day I got my tattoo…proof that I have to inflict pain to get readers? Kudos to you and the nest! I’m looking forward to your next great year. Blessings! 🙂
Found it – apparently my tattoo isn’t the only attraction – was also mid-life crisis jokes, hooker boots and chocolate bunny psychology. Food for thought….LOL
LOL! I’m sure there is a lot of interest in hooker boots! 😉
Happy New Year!
HaHa, Shane and I had lots of fun reading your blog. He really should comment on his own but I don’t hold my breath. 🙂
Aunt Sharon. 🙂
