Cartoon Craziness Challenge – Week 6
This week’s challenge was memories of a childhood vacation. What? You don’t see it? The odds are pretty good that if you grew up in the 80’s like I did (or even the 70’s), you almost certainly took a family vacation or ten in that era’s equivalent of the big honkin’ SUV minivan, the station wagon! Now do you see it? Yep, who can forget the joys of riding hundreds of miles in the back of one of those elongated death traps facing backwards! I actually pictured the concept almost immediately of setting up a tricked up Rainbow Donkey trike as a station wagon, and the rest of this week’s comic sprung forth from that idea!
Hey, at least it isn’t in Metallic Pea with wood paneling.
We had a primer-grey, 79 Ford LTD station wagon. That thing had built in seats in the hatchback, not that we needed the extra space. We called it the Queen Mary because it was the size of a boat.
I only wish our vacations were driven to in that car… Stay tuned for my entry into the fray.
Metallic pea with wood paneling is a testament to the wonderful taste of an era gone by… almost certainly never to return again…
I remember that moments… I always puked when I had to ride in the car that way, think to buy such a thingy was the worst idea ever. Oh and I remember the lemonade stand I had once, the faces of the customers look very familiar :o)
There’s nothing quite like paying kids for lemonade that tastes about as delicious as a different yellow liquid. Even better when drinking it in the back of a station wagon!
oh yes… my mom later could clean the station waggons for money… she has a lot of experience :o)
Oh groan. Mommy says they had a wagon growing up and she used to sit in the back watching… I think that might be why she gets car sick to this day. Snorts. XOXO – Bacon
No room for rear facing seats in Albert, huh? A wise choice!
So true for mom/dad. But on the other hoof, sit in the hutch back area where I stare out the back window. OMP (oh my pig)…. I ride in a Smart Wagon – snorts. XOXO – Bacon
Oy.
Never has so much been summed up so succinctly!
I’m a gal of a few words..
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ours was a Chevy something or other, light brown with wood panel. My sister named it “Betsy” and my mom drove it until some asshat damn near killed her in it when he ran a red light. Loved that car.
I wonder who came up with the idea that station wagons needed wood paneling? That just doesn’t seem like something that should be on any vehicle at all…
Oh yes… we had a proper family truckster, paneling and all. Ahhh… the rear-facing green leatherette seats. I spent many a carsick moment there, breathing in the fumes of 2 different cigarette brands lit up in the front seat. I thought it was the dodgy donut grease that didn’t agree with me, but turns out it was just carbon monoxide. Ahhh… the good old days. You can’t buy memories like that anymore.
Some of my best memories of the olden days are of things we wouldn’t dare think of subjecting kids to anymore!
I am amazed anyone survived to adulthood. I’m hoping to get there one day myself.
I also feel like the oldest woman on the planet. Oy.
I keep thinking I’m too young to feel this old. If age is just a number, mine’s a Roman numeral…
Ah the “good ol days” before mandatory seat belts or passenger limits! LOL!!!
Everyone pile in and let’s go for a ride! I got one of the humps over the wheel!
This is way too funny. We had neither, but our neighbor had both.
A station wagon and a lemonade stand? A Rainbow Donkey and a tricycle? A squirrel and a skunk? Inquiring minds want to know!
The first option. My sister and I thought the station wagon was so cool…plus they were able to sell lemonade…we felt deprived.
Looks like the Skunky Lemonade lived up to its name!
I suppose lemonade stands are a thing of the past now that you can’t sell food or drink unless it’s been made in a certified kitchen (or is that just in the UK?).
Must be,because I’ve never heard of that rule before. That would eliminate all those school bake sales and outside the ballpark snack vendors! If you ever get thirsty for a little skunky lemonade, rest assured you can still get it here! 🙂
This is great. I do believe our entrepreneurial endeavors were green stream water and mud pies. Probably why I am flat broke now lol
Mmmmm, mud pies! Always better than cow patties!
